No, Charles. Breivik linked directly to your website, quoted from articles that you posted and promoted, and named you multiple times. You took responsibility for your own content with the statement “I AM Little Green Footballs. It’s only me.”
Remember when Charles Johnson claimed that Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller and others were responsible for deranged madman Anders Breivik’s murder spree in Oslo within hours of the shootings, merely because they were mentioned in his “Manifesto?”
Remember when ThinkProgress posted a bar chart of Breivik’s influences based upon his online “Manifesto” and omitted Charles Johnson and Little Green Footballs? Remember when the BRC did a simple word search of Breivik’s “Manifesto” and found over 30 citations that were omitted by ThinkProgress? Remember when we posted an updated StinkProgress bar chart to include Breivik’s references to Charles Johnson and Little Green Footballs?
Remember when Glenn Greenwald found it, verified it and reposted it? Heh.
Remember when we turned the ThinkProgress bar chart into a pie chart?
Charles Johnson is a lying coward. At least Glenn Greenwald is honest.
Despite being cited in Breivik’s manifesto, Charles still denies this connection. Many Berniebros rightfully point out the ties Charles has with Breivik. He still goes into denial over this established connection.
1) Anders Breivik never once mentioned me or my site by name. He included articles from other places that had links to LGF in them.

Obviously, if Breivik was aware of me at all he considered me a *traitor* to his fucked up cause because I renounced all of these people.

Charles can run, but he can’t hide from the Breivik ties.
When the Left claims a person is moderate, beware they mean that the person is just slightly to right of Hugo Chavez. Our favorite nasty person, Happy Warrior calls Obama’s judicial nominee a Moderate!
Beware of the term Moderate!
Update: Charles still denies that Breivik had ties to LGF.
[Updated: Corrected spelling of Breivik and added link to Diary of Daedalus’ archive.]
As we enter day three of the meltdown brought on by a single tweet left by Glenn Greenwald, I’ll take the opportunity to opine that the meltdown’s intensity is due not to the fact that the tweet leads to a “faked graphic”, but rather the more general consequence of exposing Greenwald’s hundreds of thousands of twitter followers to our website. After all, there’s a lot of dirt we’ve gathered over the years (some of the real juicy stuff conveniently linked under “greatest hits” right in our sidebar —>); quite a cache of ammo for bloggers and twitterwarriors alike. Given the almost non-stop barrage of attacks Johnson launches against Greenwald these days, the exposure could be considered a tactical disaster.
The best part is that Greenwald didn’t mention LGF or Johnson specifically in the aforementioned tweet, really only linking to our site with a reference to the graph about the citations in the Breivik manifesto. Therefore, I have to think that Johnson’s accusations of libel and being smeared -to the point of demanding an apology and retraction– are desperate to the point of being laughable (even if the graph wasn’t accurate or based on facts, which isn’t the case).
In short, well played Glenn Greenwald. Well, played.
So since we may have a few visitors lurking about, and because we’re on the subject of the Breivik manifesto, I thought I might do a little more digging and see what I can find…
First, we have this tweet from Johnson that I think deserves a fact check:
Incorrect. There are sections of the manifesto under the headings “Demography” and “Statistics” that appears to be Breivik’s own writing and research. If you turn to page 584, you will see this:
The highlighted link takes you to LGF article 23696:
(“RoP”, for our visitors, was shorthand for Johnson’s commonly-used and sarcastically-implied reference to Islam as the “Religion of Peace”)
Interesting that Breivik cited LGF, rather than the source link at Daily Mail, as if he wanted to give Johnson credit for the find, or in the very least acknowledging that he saw it there first. Very interesting.
So now that we’ve got that straight, our research of the manifesto concludes that the rest of the (many) LGF urls cited in the manifesto are contained within the reprinted works of the writer who went under the pseudonym “Fjordman” (although it appears that Breivik himself at least went through the process of listing the urls manually for citation, gleaned from the hyperlinks contained within the online versions). For some perspective and context, here’s a slideshow for the screenshots of all those LGF links that were cited in those sections (excluding LGF’s front page url):
And speaking of Fjordman, there really are quite a few of his pieces in that manifesto. One that caught my eye can be found on page 528:
Why that one?
Well, as we’ve discussed previously and at length, Johnson has since scrubbed virtually all association with Fjordman from his site into the memory hole, so one isn’t able to visit any of his many contributions to LGF today. However, our engineers here in the Boiler Room had managed to grab one LGF article #22478 before it disappeared:
Anytime the term Nazi is in the news, Charles immediately either posts it or tweets it out. There was a MSNBC story alleging that some Neo-Nazi musician arrested in France had links to Andrew Breivik. A little digging into the article and it turns out the Neo-Nazi hated Andrew Breivik. Instead of being diligent by reading the article, Charles tweets it out as if it’s a vindication.
Breivik-Linked Neo-Nazi Metal Musician Arrested in France Over ‘Terrorist Act’ Fears – World News http://t.co/fumqHyzcHw
— Charles Johnson (@Green_Footballs) July 16, 2013
Here is what the New-Nazi musician though of Andrew Brevik.
On his website, Vikernes discusses Breivik’s manifesto, but in a post called “War in Europe: Part V – Breivik Unveiled” he also criticizes the murderer for killing more innocent Norwegians than Muslims.
Vikernes describes himself as a “pagan” and accuses Breivik of being a Zionist agent and “Christian loser”.
“If you, dear European nationalists, really want to save Europe (as a biological term) you have to realize that the only thing to do is to cast aside all Christian other international nonsense and embrace only the European (i.e. Pagan) values and ideals and if you like the European deities as well,” said the posting, dated December 13.
“If you work for Christianity in any way you work for the Jews. Plain and simple.”
Charles has more in common with the Neo-Nazi than Andrew Breivik does. Both are guitarists, hate Christianity and oppose Breivik’s ideology. Once again, Charles tweets or posts an article thinking it is reinforcing his conspiracies, when in reality they go against it.
Charles is a linker and not a thinker.

Updated just for the helluvit:
With Brian Ross’ Tea Party connection theory debunked, Charles Johnson still tries to imply a Rightwing connection. The Conspiratorial Creep Now is claiming that “new information” proves that James Holmes was inspired by Anders Breivik.
Nowhere in his post does Charles provide a link top his accusations. Instead he just makes it up because of some similarity in the methods. Charles clearly wants to pin this shooting on the political Right. He can’t accept the truth that Holmes is just a crazy loon. Charles looks for conspiracies where there are none.

A lot of bits and bytes has been spilled on various blogs and internet news sites over the contents of Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik’s manifesto. The political left has been gleeful poring over the many references to certain anti-Islamist blog personalities mentioned in the document, and these sites have been diligently mining the 1500 plus page manuscript for juicy references to their favorite adversaries on the conservative right.
Unfortunately, most of these leftist bloggers and news sources are either myopic in their journalistic skills, or worst, just plain dishonest actors. Over and over they have pounced on every reference in the manifesto to persons such as Bat Ye’or, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, the mysterious writer “Fjordman,” Daniel Pipes and MEMRI, while at the same time, almost totally ignoring the former leader of this “movement” of anti-Islamic sentiment, the blog Little Green Footballs and it’s founder Charles Johnson.
It’s a known fact that since 2007, Charles Johnson has very publicly stepped away from this circle of concerned writers and scholars of the world of radical Islam. While there is nothing wrong with changing political positions or forming new opinions, during this process Charles Johnson has also made a concerted effort to convince people that he was never the person imagined on LGF, pre-2007, that he was always “fair and balanced” and that he never harbored any animosities toward any aspect of Islam or the political left. In short, he never agreed with any of the rhetoric of his fellow travelers.
But this is simply not true. And a casual perusal of Anders Breivik’s manifesto will afford any honest person a very clear view of Charles Johnsons eager participation and importance in the early anti-Islamist movement. Here are some of the highlights…
(Breivik quoting “Fjordman”) “Dr. Chanan Naveh, who used to edit the Israel Broadcasting Authority radio’s news desk, mentioned, with no regrets, examples in which he and his colleagues made a concerted effort to change public opinion: “Three broadcasters – Carmela Menashe, Shelly Yechimovich [later a Labour party Knesset Member], and I – pushed in every way possible the withdrawal from Lebanon towards 2000… I have no doubt that we promoted an agenda of withdrawal that was a matter of public dispute. “As Charles Johnson of American anti-Jihad blog Little Green Footballs commented: “Journalists are no longer in the business of simply reporting facts and events; increasingly, they see their job as ‘activism,’ and the points of view they promote are invariably leftist and Tran-nationalist. Honest journalists will admit this outright, and we see the pernicious effects of this information manipulation and filtering everywhere.” ”
(Breivik quoting “Fjordman”) “DP111, an articulate British commentator at such websites as Jihad Watch, Little Green Footballs and Fjordman blog, points out that as Muslim families are very large, a single wage earner will find it hard to support all. They will need to supplement this by getting considerable benefits from the state.”
(Breivik quoting “Fjordman”) “As Charles Johnson of blog Little Green Footballs dryly commented, ‘this is an interesting viewpoint: Only by receiving special treatment and instituting a medieval religious legal code can Muslims be treated “equally.’”
(Breivik quoting “Fjordman”) “If the United States wants to maintain what it sees as its moral leadership, it can begin by challenging Islamic censorship and intimidation. China doesn’t care, nor does Russia, while India has a huge Islamic fifth column to worry about. Europe is controlled by a Eurabian elite that is both unwilling and incapable of protecting free speech from Muslim intimidation, which is why many Europeans have become free speech refugees on American websites such as Robert Spencer’s JihadWatch.org and Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs. ”
But as we know, Charles left the anti-Jihad movement. But the mark he left on it was striking. One of the most damming entries in Anders Breivik’s manifesto occurs AFTER Charles Johnson decided to “leave the right” and try to become a cheerleader for the progressive movement.
(Breivik quoting “Fjordman”) “What has Little Green Footballs, which never misses an opportunity to denounce “Fascists,” written about this? So far, absolutely nothing. There are indeed people who behave like Fascists in Europe, and they receive tacit support from LGF while their victims are denounced as “Fascists.””
Yes Anders Breivik developed many of his positions, opinions and mental state as a “free speech refugee” visiting American websites such as Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs. In his manifesto, he diligently annotates and footnotes his entries, guiding the reader to the sources of his fears and concerns. He includes 20 links to Charles Johnsons Little Green Footballs.
There is no doubt from the above list that Anders Breivik’s found enough material hosted and linked to at Little Green Footballs to support his positions before and after Charles Johnson went from anti-Jihad crusader to a multicultural-embracing progressive.
No, Charles Johnson didn’t make Anders Breivik’s what he is today, anymore than Bat Ye’or, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, the mysterious writer “Fjordman,” Daniel Pipes or MEMRI helped him pull the trigger of his automatic weapon for an hour and a half. But it is disingenuous (and downright dishonest) on the part of websites such as Think Progress, CNN, Slate, The New York Times, Spiegel…
… and many others to ignore the obvious connections between ALL of the personalities and websites mentioned in the manifesto and their influence, positive or negative, on Anders Breivik’s. A person is the sum of their whole and like the individual parts that made up the Frankenstein monster, Charles Johnson was part and parcel of what shaped this monster. And no amount of ignoring these references in Anders Breivik’s manifesto will help one iota in erasing the truth.
Maybe “He who scoffs at danger,” a commenter at the blog “Let Freedom Rain” sums it up best…
“The things Johnson says in the quotes selected by Fjordman are as objectionable as anything Fjordman or Breivik have written in their own pens.”
Thanks for everything you’ve done for us, Charles. Were it not for you, we’d have never known about the Nazi Threat, the Confederate AirCav hat, the Tennessee State Flag, Obama’s flag, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, Stacy McCain, George Duke’s VW and others. The Boiler Room Crew would not have existed, we’d have never gotten to interview Andrew Breitbart.
The Ruse and Fail of Little Green Footballs would have never been posted.
You’re so awesome, Charles.
Anders Breivik is very proud of you.
