Purity of Essence, Mandrake

This is an update to a post I wrote a couple of years ago about the echo chamber that LGF has become.

echo chamber:

A community in which members find their own opinions constantly echoed back to them, reinforcing their individual belief systems and creating an insular communication space that is of no interest to outsiders and which rejects their input.

Charles’ insipid rating system played a key role in LGF’s ruin, and now it’s the tie that binds the hive-mind. As the chart below shows, 87% of all comments made 2014, no matter how banal, were met with congratulatory twinkles. Of course, when a heretic appears, they still pounce on it with a passive aggressive fury. But the chart also shows, as Purity of Thought has increased, fewer posts are earning downtwinkles (only 0.4% in 2014).

For every 1000 comments at LGF, 869 are praised, 4 are frowned upon.

That is an echo chamber.

The Hollywood Jihad Against American Sniper
Posted by Daniel Greenfield @ the Sultan Knish blog 17 Comments
American Sniper is the movie that should not have existed. Even though the book was a bestseller, nobody in Hollywood wanted the rights.

    And why would they?

The Iraq War already had an official narrative in Hollywood. It was bad and wrong. Its veterans were crippled, dysfunctional and dangerous. Before American Sniper, Warner Brothers had gone with anti-war flicks like Body of Lies and In the Valley of Elah. It had lost a fortune on Body of Lies; but losing money had never stopped Hollywood from making anti-war movies that no one wanted to watch.

Even the Hurt Locker had opened with a quote from leftist terrorist supporter Chris Hedges.

An Iraq War movie was supposed to be an anti-war movie. There was no other way to tell the story. Spielberg’s own interest in American Sniper was focused on “humanizing” the other side. When he left and Clint Eastwood, coming off a series of failed films, took the helm, it was assumed that American Sniper would briefly show up in theaters and then go off to die quietly in what was left of the DVD aisle.

And then American Sniper broke box office records that had been set by blockbusters like Avatar, Passion and Hangover Part II by refusing to demonize American soldiers or to spin conspiracy tales about the war. Instead of pandering to coastal progressives, it aimed at the patriotic heartland.

In a sentence you no longer expected to hear from a Hollywood exec, the Warner Brothers distribution chief said, “This is about patriotism and all the things people say the country is lacking these days.”

The backlash to that patriotism and the things the country is lacking these days didn’t take very long to form and it goes a lot deeper than snide tweets from Michael Moore and Seth Rogen. Academy members were reportedly passing around an article from the New Republic, whose author had not actually seen the movie, but still denounced it for not showing Chris Kyle as a bigoted murderer.

Hollywood progressives are both threatened and angered by American Sniper. And with good reason.

The most basic reason is the bottom line. Between Lone Survivor, Unbroken and American Sniper, the patriotic war movie is back. Hollywood could only keep making anti-war movies no one would watch as long as that seemed to be the only way to tackle the subject. Now there’s a clear model for making successful and respectful war movies based around the biographies and accounts of actual veterans.

Hollywood studios had been pressured by left-wing stars into wasting fortunes on failed anti-war conspiracy movies. Matt Damon had managed to get $150 million sunk into his Green Zone failed anti-war movie before stomping away from Universal in a huff. Body of Lies with Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe had a real budget estimated at around $120 million, but had opened third after Beverly Hills Chihuahua whose titular tiny dog audiences preferred to either star and their political critiques.

But why spend over a hundred million on anti-war movies no one wants when American Sniper has already made over $120 million on a budget only half that much?

Hollywood progressives don’t look forward to having to write, direct and star in patriotic pictures and if they can’t destroy American Sniper at the box office, they can taint it enough that no major star or director will want to be associated with anything like it.

Adding to their undercurrent of anger is the way that American Sniper upstaged Selma at the box office and at the Academy Award nominations. Selma is a mediocre movie, but it was meant to be a platform for the usual conversation that progressives want to have about how terrible Americans are. Instead audiences chose to see a movie about how great Americans can be even in difficult times.

There’s nothing that threatens the left as much as that.

In a Best Picture lineup that includes the obligatory paeans to gay rights and the evils of racism, American Sniper distinctly stands out as something different. It displaces Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, the previous sure winner which had its obligatory drunken Iraq War veteran claiming that the war was fought for oil, with an authentic veteran instead of Hollywood’s twisted caricature of one.

American Sniper and Lone Survivor signal a shifting wind in which the focus of movies about the War on Terror moves from the organizational conspiracy theories that Hollywood liked to make to the personal narratives of the men who fought in them. Many of the smarter progressive reviews of American Sniper grapple with the fact that the time when they could even have their favorite argument is going away.

Progressives would like Dick Cheney to be the face of the war, but are forced to deal with a world in which Chris Kyle and Marcus Luttrell will be how America sees the conflict. The lens through which the left liked to view the war, its obsessions with WMD, Bush and the path to war, have been eclipsed by the rise of ISIS and the return of American veterans. Their worldview has become outdated and irrelevant.

It’s easier for the left to vent its anger on American Sniper than to deal with its own irrelevance. The most shocking thing about the movie is not any political statement, but its presumption in dealing with the Iraq War and the men in it as if it were WW2. It doesn’t confront the left; instead it acts as if the left isn’t there. It fails to acknowledge the entire worldview through which Hollywood dealt with the war.

The left spends most of its time living in its own bubble and is shocked when events remind it that the rest of the country does not really share its opinions and tastes. American Sniper’s success is one of those explosive wake-up calls and the left has responded to it with all the expected vicious pettiness.

A billboard for the movie was vandalized and attacks from lefty outlets like New Republic and Vox not only target the movie, but the dead man at the center of it. The smear campaign against Kyle has reached new lows, because in death he has become an even more powerful symbol of everything that the left hates.

Hollywood tried to “Vietnamize” Iraq in the popular imagination. American Sniper shows they failed.

Whether or not American Sniper wins the requisite number of Oscars, its impact on Hollywood and on ordinary Americans will not go away. The anti-war movie is in eclipse. The movies that tell the stories of the sacrifices that American veterans have made in the war against Islamic terrorists are rising.

“Well, except that I’m friendless except for a bum and my brother, broke as hell, and reduced to begging, with no relief in sight. Other than that, no regrets whatsoever.” (sob)

  31. dwells38 says:

Pam is currently suffering a DoS attack. Seems pretty fishy since Chunky McRippedBikePants was just whining about how she and BB had plotted against him, er something. Here’s her alternate site until she can get back up from the garbage pieces of shit that did this to her:

    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/

Seriously I doubt Chunky has any skills to bring her site down. He can’t even debug his dump of a failed blog. But he’s certainly on the side of people who want her silenced, ie Muslim groups and the Progturd libs who moronically do their bidding in hiding the truth about Islam, the worst and most violent, freedom hating religion on the planet. Here’s a story from her site about the enemies of freedom who attack the Sniper movie and pretend it caused a wave of Islamaphobia.

    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/pamela_geller/2015/01/american-muslim-group-attacks-american-sniper-demands-eastwood-and-cooper-denounce-fictional-islamop.html

Here’s part but there’s more. It’s a long article because, ya know Pamela can actually think complex thoughts and then write them with skill. Unlike dimbulb Chunky who paws at the keyboard for a minute to say who he hates and how bad he hates them and how stupid they are for holding a view other than his. Then needs a Cheeto break whilst his tiny guitar brain recovers from the effort of trying to think of something worthwhile and failing as usual. It’s why he’s so comfortable on Twitter. He actually has little to say beyond 140 characters.

Muslim groups allege that Muslims have become targets of “violent threats” because of American Sniper. Nobody believes it. They are demanding that “American Sniper” director Clint Eastwood and actor Bradley Cooper denounce the alleged hateful language directed at Muslims because of the film. This it is what they do — victim jihad. When one part of the Muslim world kills, the other half cries victim. Whack and whine. It is a distraction to get people to stop talking jihad and instead address their demands.

Apparently, Muslim groups are claiming that a couple of tweets offended their sensibilities. They want action! More like submission. It’s called free speech, brutes.

Why don’t Muslim groups demand that leaders of the Muslim world, imams, Al Azhar university, et al denounce the hateful, racist, anti-semitic, misogynist, anti-kuffar language in the Qur’an that is responsible for all of these Muslim wars across the world?

The idea that the film “glorifies war and sanitizes Kyle” is laughable. The only war talk or war movie that the left enjoys is a war in which the US loses or stands down. The left demands that we hang our heads in shame if we triumph. Which is why “American Sniper” is such an invigorating breath of fresh air.

As for “sanitizing Kyle,” let’s get real. It is the enemedia and the elites that sanitize jihad and Islam. And they do it every day in every news story. Hollywood doesn’t just sanitize jihad and Islam, they avoid them all costs. It is the gravest threat to freedom, and Hollywood pretends that it doesn’t exist.

As my penpal Daniel F. points out, “Now it’s American Muslims who are complaining about ‘violent threats,’ allegedly incited by the hit movie American Sniper. And this time the media is trumpeting this story. Two rules of history converge here:

    1) When Muslims in an a non-Muslim country reach a certain critical mass, they seek to dominate the surrounding community – and then move on from there. cf. Britain, Germany, Sweden and France, inter alia.

    2) Free speech is unknown in the Muslim world, actually it’s anathema. So it starts with trying to shut us up and stopping us from casting Islam in a negative light. And does it work? For one thing, you can be certain the entertainment industry is now poring over their scripts and deleting ‘offending’ sections. Other ‘projects’ will simply bite the dust. Of course, Obama didn’t need cajoling. As soon as he took office he banned certain phrases from the government’s lexicon that might reflect poorly on the Muslim religion. Makes you wonder what that man is all about, doesn’t it?”

For the record, I saw the film back in December when it was first given a very limited release — just two theaters in NYC. I loved it. I tweeted that it was the best film in decades. It’s hardly a rah-rah cheerleading film. It is a film about a deeply good and decent man, a true American patriot.

The record breaking box-office numbers show how out of touch the elites are with the American people.

  32. dwells38 says:

Wait – I’m supposed to be ashamed for not wanting to be associated with people who link to Pamela Geller? twitter.com/yidwithlid/sta…

You’re supposed to ashamed for having less balls than Pamela Geller. And then smearing her as an excuse for you being a ball-less c*nt against freedom, the West and the forces of good. And instead revealing you are actually the ball-less useful Idiot you mocked for years. Way to go.

  33. dwells38 says:

Gary Sinise politely informs Howard Dean that he’s a fucking idiot:

    To Howard Dean,
I saw American Sniper and would not consider myself to be an angry person. You certainly have a right to make stupid blanket statements, suggesting that all people who see this film are angry, but how is that helpful sir? Do you also suggest that everyone at Warner Brothers is angry because they released the film? That Clint Eastwood, Jason Hall, Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller and the rest of the cast and crew are angry because they made the film? Chris Kyle’s story deserved to be told. It tells a story of the stress that multiple deployments have on one military family, a family representative of thousands of military families. It helps to communicate the toll that the war on terror has taken on our defenders. Defenders and families who need our support. I will admit that perhaps somewhere among the masses of people who are going to see the film there may be a few that might have some anger or have been angry at some point in their lives, but, with all due respect, what the hell are you talking about?

I notice Chunky’s keeping his nose clean on this one so far. It wasn’t fun the last time Nick Searcy jerked him out of his dog house and kicked his ass around the yard for 100,000 Twitterers to see, so he’s not taking any chances. Since we know he’s a Progturd asswipe now he could only denounce the movie as anti-Muslim, racist, jingoistic and oh did I mention racist? But he’s keeping that broken record silent and denouncing Pam Geller AGAIN like the irrlevant coward he is.

  34. dwells38 says:

American Sniper sweeping the world including Twitter where Chunky spends all of his time.

Chunky: Chuck C and Dana Loesch are deranged and I hate them both. Oh and I redundantly denounce Pam Geller just to be a dickweed.

Thanks for that Chunky. What would we do without your expert and relevant analysis.

  35. dwells38 says:

Naturally this idiot is mad at the police instead of the black thief they were looking for that caused his son to be briefly mistakenly detained.

Apparently he’d rather live in a world where black men can commit crimes all they want. Even burglarize his son’s room at college.

  36. dwells38 says:

So I’ve been watching only Chunky’s insipid Tweets about the “spat” between Dana Loesch and Ginger boy. Eventually today I got around to reading the story on Ginger’s website from his POV. I know he’s not popular here and generally regarded as “the other” Johnson dickhead. However, he was friends with and employed by someone who is popular here. Namely Breitbart himself. And reading Ginger’s account of the Loesch fight which actually stems from his revelations of Holly Fisher, he seem a lot less “deranged” than the Fat Fuck who spits on a whole lot of good people and sides with liars. And Ginger has a much better explanation for occasionally going after people on his own side than Chunky’s they brainwashed me with their extremely persuasive racism moron talk. It’s an interesting read where he reveals his motives and his AB connected bona fides from early on. There’s more before this where he talks about Loesch’s hypocrisy on gubmint handouts whilst taking them herself, yet railing all day against them.

So why is this Tea Party heroine and her husband taking tax payer money while they get paid to play? Is this really ethical behavior?

Building Shock City Studios in that location wouldn’t have been viable if it weren’t for the taxpayer credits. And yet she goes on and on about how terrible bailouts are after her family got them.

Obama’s is Bush on steroids when it comes to spending and bailouts. #debate

    — Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) October 17, 2012

    That’s not all.

She praises Andrew Breitbart but it was Andrew himself who didn’t renew her contract in October 2011 according to court documents filed by Dana Loesch. Months later, Andrew died on March 1, 2012. Andrew told both me and Lee Stranahan separately that he would be fine if Dana moved on.

Why didn’t he renew the contract? Because Dana’s interests were on things other than the Breitbart sites: herself. In the final analysis Dana’s an opportunist who latches on to movements to promote herself.

Exposing hypocrites and frauds is why I created Gotnews.com. Unfortunately my independence carries with it the responsibility to oftentimes expose people who are nominally “on my side.” I don’t like doing it but I’m a journalist, not a commentator. I’m not interested in the penthouse suite of the right-wing ghetto. I’m interested in changing the news. I would prefer to do the hard hitting stories that take on left-wing targets but I’m interested in exposing frauds generally.

Why We Need Serious Reporters Who Will Expose All of the Truth

Here’s what’s really going on here: Dana Loesch called me out for exposing her friend Holly Fisher and I responded. She came back and I did it again. She came back again and I did it yet again. I asked her through our mutual acquaintance, Jim Hoft, to stop. I asked her for an apology; she insisted on continuing so here we are.

Pretty awesome. ‘Powerhouse duo’: Holly Fisher finally meets Dana Loesch ‘in the flesh’ [photo] http://t.co/BUBh3yjJ7P

    — Ulysses (@Just_a_Texan) August 31, 2014

On this website I exposed Holly Fisher, a rising Tea Party conservative star who was cheating on her combat veteran husband at a Family Values event. Loesch took to Twitter to defend Holly Fisher tweeting this.

    Andrew never wrote gossip. #war

    — Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) January 19, 2015

That’s what set me off. I don’t believe Dana, who has never broken a story, has the right to claim Andrew Breitbart’s legacy. Those of us who actually break stories and don’t just commentate for a living do. Loesch is now claiming that I care about an “unfollow” from her. This is a lie.

First a little background. I volunteered and worked for Breitbart. The reason you don’t know too much about my work for Andrew is that I was busy doing it and living in relative obscurity. (It was only after Andrew died and I got married that I decided I should be a bit more out in the public eye and began tweeting and causing trouble.)

I wrote movie reviews for Big Hollywood, I wrote a few articles vetting Obama, and I found the Derrick Bell tapes. I also found the Eric Holder “brain wash” people into not liking guns. I worked on the Obama eats dogs story and published the material on Obama’s time at Columbia, among many others. I also won two journalism awards from the Wall Street Journal for a story I published first on Andrew’s sites. (I also published a version on National Review Online.) I thanked Andrew in my speech at NewsCorp headquarters and in print. “I would never have won this great award without the help of Andrew Breitbart and the people at BigPeace.com believing in me and my work,” I said at the time.

I worked for Andrew Breitbart from 2009 until his death and then shortly thereafter. (I accepted a paying offer in 2011). He actually first introduced me to James O’Keefe who I have advised and who is a good friend.

@coolhandschlute in fact ab introduced me to @ChuckCJohnson when he was at Claremont.

    — James O’Keefe (@JamesOKeefeIII) December 9, 2014

I was also the last employee at Breitbart to contact Andrew before he died. We talked about going to a party at screenwriter Dale Launer’s house that Friday. I was also in Andrew’s office with Samuel Corcos the day he offered the money for video of the N-word being said to black congressmen. We had Mexican food at a B restaurant and he ate half my chicken burrito because I was talking too much. Sam Corcos, Bryce Gerard, and I met Andrew and Alex Marlow first at a GenX event and America’s Future Foundation event in Los Angeles when I was a freshman in college in Los Angeles. Cato’s Gene Healey and The Atlantic’s Conor Friedersdorf were both there, too. I still have many friends (and a few critics) at the Breitbart site despite leaving. I came back after Andrew died briefly before I left again to do freelance work elsewhere. I entertained an offer to come back to the sites a few years ago but I wanted to go in my own direction. I respect what the Breitbart sites are trying to do but I wanted to be my own man.

When I worked for Breitbart I used to go into the office when I lived in L.A. County on occasion. Andrew Breitbart and his staff routinely complained about how Dana Loesch wouldn’t do work as editor of Big Journalism, how she was using her salary to advance her radio show and homeschool her children, and how she would introduce errors into the writing.

Loesch sued the Breitbart sites in December 2012 for $75,000. Loesch and Breitbart’s estates settled for a non-monetary settlement in July 1, 2013. Loesch went on to work for Glenn Beck whose well known disputes with Andrew Breitbart culminated in something of a cold war between the Beck and Breitbart empires, especially after Beck went after Breitbart on the Shirley Sherrod story.

All your libtard pals are denouncing it as right wing hate pr0n. Why aren’t you retweeting them? Cat’s got your toungue? Yes it’s snowing in the NEast. Nobody needs you to Tweet about it.

The deceptive media coverage of Barrett Brown’s sentencing is a case study in why people don’t (and shouldn’t) trust media.

The deceptive way I’ve altered posts, deleted comments, blocked commenters and now lie about having influenced Breivik, or used the term St. Pancake, or called Pam Geller “baby” or relished the attention from people like Rush Limbaugh is why people don’t (and shouldn’t) trust me.

    • ISpeakJive says:

      Eggsactly.

He keeps whining that Barrett didn’t go to jail for posting a link. But he did get 12 months tacked onto his sentence for aiding and abetting the posting of the link, even though that exact charge had been dropped. (I think it is very weird that they can do that in the sentencing.)

So, Chunky, guess what. You are being, what’s the word? Oh, ya, deceptive.

Recently a cub reporter asked Adam Carolla a frightening question:

I know you’re a conservative, but don’t you think a Hillary Clinton White House is inevitable?

The reporter’s bias leaps off the computer screen, but let’s focus on Carolla’s answer.

Well, what she has going for her—and I don’t think people should discount this element —is that we’re in a place where we like to feel good about ourselves and being a part of change ,,, So, we’re just coming off electing the first African American president. Everyone thinks that was awesome. Now, we’re getting into the same thing with Hillary and saying, “Hey, the first woman! We’re on a roll here!” I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton. She is a sociopath. I think Bill Clinton is a sociopath, too, and a sexual predator.

Personally, I think “President Shrillary” is far from a certainty, probably a long shot, once the skeletons come clanking out of the closet, and her weaknesses on the campaign trail are trotted out again. I agree with Carolla, that she’s likely to get the votes of a lot of lo-info voters who want to make another historic first, despite the hideodorous disaster of the last one.

Because Chunky’s nothing if not oblivious to the obvious and can’t resist proving Ginger’s point.

Hey Chunky, at 26 you were a nobody guitar side man. After touring and even recording with three name acts you had parlayed that into a career as……a nobody guitar side man. Since then it’s taken you until almost age sixty to decide you’re a moonbat jaggoff. You really don’t have any business mocking the Ginger one. You were once friends with AB too, but you idiotically squandered that and bit the hand that could’ve opened doors to mix a metaphor.

Terri Schiavo was forced to starve to death because her scumbag husband and his girlfriend wanted to cash in on a huge life insurance policy.

People got so wrapped up in the politics of DNR that they were blind to the shady bullshit of that particular case.

I believe the judge who presided over that case was removed from the bench a year or so later for corruption.

Makes you wonder how much of a cut he got out of that life insurance payoff.

I have friends at Berkeley who know Muller (better known as Louie Alvarez’ lap dog) well.

He knew it all along. The temperature station project was a way to give his daughter a job, so they could pocket a half million from the Koch Brothers for confirming data that was already obvious to every climate scientist in the country.

Berkeley, once a shining city on a hill, was corrupted a while ago. The oil companies made a 9 figure grant to the science and environmental center. Self censorship followed.

None of this discussion is meaningful. The increase in population of the planet outstrips any decrease in per capita usage. The ‘Western world’ is already in a negative per capita usage. Take the West back even to the per capita CO2 output levels during the US Civil War and you don’t touch the problem.

The eradication of measles & influenza, the increase in food production, sewer lines and potable water – make yourself a graph with these and you find the same thing as CO2. More people, more CO2.

So lets get down to business. How are we going to kill all these people? OK so we kill THEM. Good. Now how are we going to do it? Nukes or disease? OK. Now that we have them killed how do we prevent it from happening again.

There’s your problem. All this silliness of lowering CO2 is the easy part.

Isn’t it comical that Chunkles is doing the exact same thing that we do here at Daedalus? Namely mocking someone’s Tweets, ie Chunk’s definition of stalking!! And even more comical he’s stalking a supposed stalker. Still more so it was only a couple weeks back that Chunk was still insinuating that Ginger might be *gasp* violent and wanting to harm Chunky in the flabiverse (Normally would be meatverse but I’ve invented this term solely for Chunky)!! That he continues taunting demonstrates that Chunk is clearly full of shit.

    I rest my case.

Charlie Habda? Who? Of course the joke’s on everyone because 1) They’re probably paying him north of a $mil a year, and 2) by giving him a news show in coveted time slot it leaves the impression that this is the best that black liberals have to offer. A barely literate, ex drug dealer turned snitch because he had no choice and hyperbolic race-baiter EXTREMELY unhelpful to the need for blacks to put race behind them. And instead embrace solutions such as education, achievement and the rejection of drugs and gangs.

It’s pretty depressing that @twitter @safety won’t take any action to stop this vile creep from outing rape victims. twitter.com/ChuckCJohnson

Ginger’s on this one (offering $500 for the accuser’s name) and Chunky is incensed and outraged at the outrageousness and demands he be blocked, banned, drawn and quartered by Twitter. Plus it makes Chunky haz a sad and feel unsafe. Chunk’s a scream when he goes all fake outrage and feigning the most evil intentions while obtusely and purposely ignoring the real issue with all these high profile media rape stories. Such a champion of the damsels. Except Bristol Palin being knocked down and brutalized by drunken violent men was hysterically funny and made Chunk’s day for a week.

I read the story here on CBS news and notice how the Progturd CBS writer mentions the LaCross team/drunken idiot stripper kerfuffle at Duke without clarifying they were all easily exonerated. Yes the mere accusation by a drunken slut, not even a student makes it a disturbing pattern of “rape university”.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/duke-university-suspends-alpha-delta-phi-fraternity-amid-rape-investigation/

Maybe this one’s legit but the only pattern I see lately is one of a fake narrative being put forth by the Progturd media liars that women are being brutalized, raped and gang raped all the time by rich white men. Didn’t Chunk just say the media can’t be trusted? He’s such a frickin’ idiot.
