LGF Comment Stats 6/17/11-6/23/11

Weekly comment stats for LGF for the week beginning 06/17/2011 thru 06/23/2011 (Friday thru Thursday).

Dee’s NYT article, characterizing LGF as ‘the blog version of Animal Farm’ where a couple of dozen posters are responsible for most of the comments is still accurate. Last week 25 lizards were responsible for 60.8% of all LGF comments for the week. [previous week’s stats]

LGF stats for week beginning 06/17/11
number of commenters (including socks)  214
number of comments  8,248
total net positive karma  14,233
total net negative karma  -229
average karma per comment  1.70
contribution of top 25 lizards  60.8%

Last week cannadian club akbar displaced albusteve as most prolific LGF commenter. Charles wasn’t one of the top 25 commenters last week, and total comments were off about 20% from the week before. Coincidence, or causality? Gus802 is finally back, finishing in third spot. Windupbird‘s contributions have been spotty ever since he came out as a white guy; this week he didn’t even make the top 25.

Comment statistics for all 214 commenters for week beginning 6/17/11: comm110610.xls

Update: Here are a couple of charts that help visualize where the current LGF is at in terms of weekly comments and commenters [charts current as of January 2011]. The format might be a little confusing – both charts each have two Y-axis scales, so you need to associate the proper Y-axis scale with the proper line in each chart. In both charts, the lefthand Y-axis scale is associated with the red line, and the righthand Y-axis scale is associated with the green line.

40% of comments from just 10 people.

that is one tiny echo chamber.

Can you even get an echo in a telephone booth?

  2. ElSuerte says:

Interesting. There seems to be a big drop in the number of unique. Doesn’t it usually hang around 250 lately? Must be why the Dee-Stooge curve got pulled up.

    • nils says:

Unique nics has been bouncing around 250 since the first of the year, but the overall trend for unique nics posting per week has been down since 2008, and down still looks like the general direction of that metric.

  3. HaikuMan says:

    Steve is slacking ><

    • nils says:

His comments are up to 6% of the total – he’s usually around 5%. Who knew he’d have to beat cannadian club akbar’s 6.4% this week.

And who says Charles has no integrity, when he’s willing to put his most prolific commenter, week-in and week-out, into timeout. He’s willing to fly his blog right into the ground in the name of ideological purity.

  5. rightymouse says:

Do any of those posters have a job, let alone a LIFE??

  6. garycooper says:

  7. tunnelrat says:

Who has the free time to post 500+ comments on a blog each week? Those folks must not have a job, or a hobby, or a family, or any kind of normal life for that matter. It is a strong indication of a mental illness, IMHO, which implies that they are living in a cyber world and not the real one. In any event, only a fool would consider the opinions of such a messed up person to be relevant or worthy of discussion.

    • Basement Cat says:

I have trouble even managing to make a few BLOG POSTS in one week. It took me several hours to put up my Caturday post. I had to look through a lot of pix to find what I needed.

  8. doppelganger says:

Lgf – we used to have the 250 sharpest minds of the internet. Now we have the 214 sharpest minds of the internet. We are pruning.

I love the freaking bicycle guy on chart 2 😉

  11. Whatever says:

Has there always been more karma than comments? Talk about a ding-a-ling party.

    • nils says:

There’s a chart somewhere where we tracked ‘dingflation’. The trend for “average karma per comment” has been slowly but steadily up. It wasn’t that long ago that it was around +1.6 karma per comment (on average). This week’s an aberration, back down to +1.7. Lately +2.0 karma per comment has been the weekly average.

  12. ChenZhen says:

Sad….I think the quest for 1000 comments has been abandoned.

      • rightymouse says:

      • After Gus put up that 903 comment performance a while back, we were joking that there was a race for 1000. Ironically (’cause they are unaffected by what we do here), both WindUpBird and Gus were in the 900’s the next week. But since then, I don’t think anyone’s come close.

        Update: Found it: 4/22-4/28

      • nils says:

One week, in the last couple of months, both WUB and Gus802 had 900+ comments each, so we thought it was just a matter of time before one of them broke past the 1000 comments per week barrier.

    • nils says:

WUB and Gus802 – kinda like Mantle and Maris chasing the Babe’s record. That was the week that was.

      • ElSuerte says:

Does it count if a sock does it?

I couldn’t even keep it together long enough to post 25 comments before hitting the third rail.

      • nils says:

Does it count if a sock does it?

Socks are eligible, but any nic breaking the 1K comment barrier will have to be drug-tested, because a negative result there would be dispositive of something terribly wrong.

    • HaikuMan says:

  13. ElSuerte says:

Hmm, I’m kinda wondering what the effect of the 2007 primaries season and the 2008 election had with Charles and LGF. Elections are the tides that left all ships. News outlets get more viewers, and political blogs especially get more traffic. Myself, I discovered LGF because of the election.

I’m thinking that the traffic boost from the election masked a declining trend. CJ’s off putting behavior sure started earlier then 2009, so I’m surprised that it took so long for it to have had an effect.

Called “darkwing”. He just registered today and his first and only post was a spew at Charles on this thread. He was clue-batted at once and the I promptly grilled his Gamey Buttocks

Just to drive home a point from the last thread. That verbiage is coming from the brain of a 32 year old man who lives at home with his parents and still talks about Dungeons and Dragons as if it were a master chess activity.

  17. Chuckles is too busy bashing serbs as a bunch of far-right muslim murderers.

No doubt he will make a connection between the mossad and the serbian genocide.

  18. Or what he thinks is a genocide.

Here, Loody, Loody, Loody! Here, Loody, Loody, Loody!

This geological reality explains why EPA administrator Lisa Jackson, a determined enemy of fossil fuels, recently told Congress that there have been no “proven cases where the fracking process itself has affected water.”

Loody, your heroine has blasphemed! You must return to LFG and correct this mighty wrong!

    Do it. Now. Sideways. Bitch.

I share your outrage and although we hold differing views, the principle behind our stance is pretty much the same. There are hundreds of Palestinian children imprisoned falsely in Israeli jails. According to BT’selem, the torture of these children is “widespread, systematic and institutionalised” yet all we hear from the international human rights community is a plea to stop this child abuse, rather than a demand to free the the children, some as young as 7. According to your logic (with which I’m in agreement), these so-called human rights organisations agree that Palestinian children should be tortured in israeli jails.
Btw, is the sentence for throwing stones at the separation barrier still 20 years?

Surprised Lobengula just didn’t say that the Israelis drink the blood of Palestinian children.

I just want to say that I very much appreciate the time and effort that goes into gathering and processing the data for the weekly stats. I also like the highest and lowest rated comments post.

    Great work, nils.

    • nils says:

Thanks. Ironically I’m heading out on vacation shortly, so the stats (from me anyway) will probably go missing for a while.

  24. Reine.de.tout needs electroshock therapy.

    • rightymouse says:

No. She needs to stop worrying about the stupid LGF cookbook & get out of that hell-hole.

      • Whatever says:

Before she does that, if she really is a Catholic, she needs to say loudly and clearly, not in our name to that kind of Elders of Zion bullshit. Her silence is implying consent.

      • rightymouse says:

Agreed! Have been dismayed by her unwillingness to stand up for what she knows to be the truth. For what? The right to mingle with intellectual morons? Cookbook sales? Bah……

    • Basement Cat says:

She needs a monumental kick in the arse, that’s what she needs. 👿

It isn’t part of the Caturday thread; it’s actually a very brief hard-news story about enemy propaganda in Japan. However, there ARE some funny pix if you click on the links at the end of the article.

  30. ISpeakJive says:

A guy can go on LGF and say Israel imprisons 7 year-olds for 20 years for throwing rocks.

A non-factual statement. Not a word from Charles.

A guy can go on LGF and say Microsoft is not all bad.

An opinion, nothing more. All hell breaks loose.

    Priorities, priorities.
