Sir Charles, 1st Knight of the Apple

Charles Johnson loves to play hero. LGF commenter, Buck, did a thread today about Apple planning to develop a way to turn off I-phones at live events. Sir Charles, 1st Knight of the Apple, comes to defend the honor of his favorite company.

Charles kept on denying even when presented with facts. This was very reminiscent of his defense of Anthony Weiner. He views himself as a knight in shining armor for Apple. In reality he’s a fool dressed up in a rusty garbage can on a broken bicycle.

    • stonemason says:

The Grateful Dead allowed recording, not a good argument. Charles is right about people whining when their ‘right’ to do something illegal is taken away. That said, Charles was an ass to Buck for two reasons, 1. Buck is right wing and 2. Charles loves Apple products. He missed the point of the article Buck linked, as usual, and focused on BS to try to discredit the whole thing.

      Typical.

      • Banshee says:

The issue is not whether one can legally take video of a concert, but rather, should companies act as nannies by deciding where and when we can use our equipment? I can’t imagine a slipperier slope. GPS may one day become a vehicle for the police state. Think: China or Iran or Syria turning off all functions during a crackdown.

The Putz of Very Little Brain gets it wrong again.

      • stonemason says:

Exactly. Apple isn’t the one to block the taping, that is up to the venue or the band.
Of course this is not about that, this is about an idiot who knee-jerks when either Apple or moonbats are attacked.

Ok, somebody called it earlier. It might have been Banshee, but they said it was going to be a bad night over there, and someone was going to have to pay for Charles getting busted by the BRC.

    Bingo.

  9. YankintheEU says:

Charles clearly loves Apple and he hates it when, in his perception, people attack it. He gets a raging impulse to defend it.

This is indeed the mentality of a ‘fan boy’. Buck nailed it with that term. It’s impossible to have a discussion without him massively exaggerating the other side’s view.

The sad part is that we are talking about a grown man, here. ‘Man-child’ is the common term for this person.

Government Accountability Office: Breitbart’s ACORN Sting Videos Were Dishonestly Edited
The GAO exonerates ACORN of right wing smears
      Charles Johnson
      Politics • Thu Jun 16, 2011 at 7:14 pm PDT • Views: 194

The Government Accountability Office released a report today showing that Andrew Breitbart and James O’Keefe got away with a gigantic hoax on the American public, resulting in the demise of an organization that helped the poorest and most disenfranchised: GAO Finds Little to Support Congress’ Abolition of ACORN.

A report issued today by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) finds little to support the charges that led to the demise of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a grassroots consumer advocacy organization driven out of existence by Congressional critics.

The GAO found that monitoring of awards to ACORN by government agencies generally consisted of reviewing progress reports and making site visits. Of 22 investigations of alleged election and voter registration fraud, most were closed without prosecution, the report found.

One of eight investigations of alleged voter registration fraud resulted in guilty pleas and seven were closed without action due to lack of evidence.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) reported five closed matters – one resolved, one dismissed and the others dropped after FEC “found no reason to believe the violations occurred.”

At its peak, ACORN was a collection of 1,200 community-based organizations in 100 U.S. cities that advocated for low- and moderate-income families.

In 2009, conservative activists released selectively edited videos claiming to show ACORN employees giving advice on hiding prostitution activities and avoiding taxes.

      • livefreeor die says:

Actually, no where in the story does the GAO say Breitbart dishonestly edited the videos. That’s Charles’ quote made to look like the story said it.
        Pathetic.

Is he right about that? I couldn’t even take a video of me at a concert for my personal enjoyment? I always thought that the rule was you couldn’t sell the videos or something like that.

    serious question.

    • Mark says:

As a general rule, Chuck’s right about filming or recording a concert. The work is protected by copyright. Of course, not every artist goes out of their way to enforce their copyright, especially at concerts. There are dozens of bootlegged concert albums by The Grateful Dead and Dylan for instance.

Acorn was a left-wing advocacy group paid for by the US taxpayers. What did they advocate? Obama’s election and pushing no/low down payments for low income home buyers. Obama has screwed the economy and the housing market is in the crapper in because people who shouldn’t have gotten home loans did and market values were artificially inflated..
