LGF Comment Stats 6/03/11-6/09/11

Weekly comment stats for LGF for the week beginning 06/03/2011 thru 06/09/2011 (Friday thru Thursday).

Comments were way up at the swamp last week – call it the Weinergate effect. (There’s a riff on the rising tide lifts all boats aphorism in there somewhere, but it escapes me.) Windupbird is back in his full, glorious, greyness (he’s black!, he’s white!, he’s grey!), and Charles himself again was a top commenter with 283 comments.

Dee’s NYT article, characterizing LGF as ‘the blog version of Animal Farm’ where a couple of dozen posters are responsible for most of the comments is still accurate, though for one of the first times in memory the contribution of the top two dozen didn’t exceed 50%. Last week 25 lizards were responsible for 50.2% of all LGF comments for the week.

Also of note is that there were 297 unique nics commenting at LGF for the week, still far below LGF’s glory days, when LGF had roughly 2,000 unique commenters at LGF in its heyday, around 2008. [last week’s stats]

LGF stats for week beginning 05/27/11
number of commenters (including socks)  297

Loyal lizard albusteve again led the field in posting comments at LGF. Albusteve is one of the special group of LGF-timeout survivors who found the re-education of the timeout both instructive and invigorating. So, hats off again (he’s a repeat winner) to this week’s Face of LGF, the new, Mr. Consistent-Five-Percenter Albusteve – LGF poster boy for “timeouts work, because I value my LGF account”.

Chunk promises to dig deeper into his Hole of Eternal Shame:

Be back a bit later with a post on the latest claims made by the Breitbart camp followers, as they desperately try to deflect attention away from their idol’s irresponsible, reckless behavior with that infamous explicit photo of Rep. Weiner. This one will be fun.

Yes, the irresponsible, reckless behavior was all on Breitbart’s side.

We wait with bated breath to see what fabulous deflection you will serve up next, Chunk.

  2. antilgfwarrior says:

    Chucky still defending Weiner:

  3. Village Idiot's Apprentice says:

    Er….Chunk

You might not want to read this next sentence…

    Ah, the hell with it….
Just go to Drudge and weep.

    • Banshee's Banned Ghost says:

Clearly the top Dems have been taken in by Breitbart’s insidious campaign. Chunk will know what to do. Give Chunk a call, Weiner!

  4. garycooper says:

There is no bottom, is there?

    • Village Idiot's Apprentice says:

Big old ginormous stack of turtles.
      All the way down.

      Oh, you mean about Wiener.
Something tells me that someone in Law Enforcement made a back door phone call to the upper level of the Democratic party.
Something like “It’s gonna come out sooner or later, and you don’t want to be anywhere near him when it does”.

Something caused the trifecta of calls for resignation.
And I don’t think we know the half of it…..yet.

      • channeling the chunkster says:

Wait a minute … you don’t believe Weiner’s assertions sans evidence that the underage conversations weren’t improper?

Okay … would you believe this: #hacked!, #pranked!, #breitbart! if they turn out to be a little risque?

        Just wondering…

    • Whatever says:

If there is, it’s out in the wilds of the internet now…

  5. Banshee's Banned Ghost says:

Hey, folks, is is just me, or is Chunk the only one in sight who is obsessing about Breitbart’s “irresponsible, reckless behavior” right now? The rest of the media seems to be looking at Breitbart.

Is this the final stage in Chunk’s cunning plot? Or has he irretrievably lost his mind?

  6. antilgfwarrior says:

  7. dej says:

So, more or less the same # of poster in total and 25 posters make half the posts. You would think with 217,000 views(CJs #), that there would be more than 297 posters. I guess people want to look at the train wreck as opposed to participating in it. Of course without Weiner the #s would be back to the 8-9000 range.

  8. snowcrash says:

Weiner is checking himself into a treatment center. He is a little late. I suggested he do that during his terarful presser when he said 6 women were involved.

snowcrash :Weiner is checking himself into a treatment center. He is a little late. I suggested he do that during his terarful presser when he said 6 women were involved.

Such a joke, these sex addiction rehabs. Bunch of guys, and probably a few sad gals, who are there hiding out after being caught indulging their perverse streaks. It’s beyond farcical.

  9. garycooper says:

Breitbart and Ace are the heroes of this story, and LFG is the punchline of the joke. If he had any brains or pride left whatsoever, he’d be talking about a subject as far away from his most-humiliating debacle as possible. What he’s doing now, in essence, is taking his most shameful episode out every day and displaying it on the front lawn, with lights, party-streamers and noise-makers (Twitters) to make sure everyone stops by to take a look.

It’s quite possible that he’s just desperate enough to need the added-traffic, to avoid having to shut down completely. The old show biz-adage, “there’s no such thing as bad publicity,” isn’t always true, but it might be true to a certain degree now for him. The blog is in the crapper, and the only thing that’s helped his dwindling numbers has been Weinergate, even if it’s only people stopping by to laugh and point at the funny assclown.

  10. garycooper says:

  11. Upcoming thread, and something I’ve wanted to feature for a while…an evaluation of just how many people CJ refers to as “Creeps” in the LGF archives. The number is staggering, according to The World’s Greatest Blog Search Engine™. I think it’s safe to say that Johnson has watered down the definition a bit. Stay tuned, it’s hilarious!

  12. garycooper says:

Pelosi, Wasserman Schultz, Israel tell Weiner he should resign

Israel, too? Ooh, that smarts. Next it will be France, Russia and Germany piling on. 😆

Chunky, keep defending Weiner. It’s working!

  14. Banshee's Banned Ghost says:

Chunk’s latest spin is up. You won’t believe his pretzel logic this time.

Basically, he says the caption to his photo is not referring to the photo, but to the ideal truth.

    Plato’s cave, indeed.

    • nils says:

Chunk again, pointedly, ignores the word ‘notice’ in his original article.

I.e. he wrote “notice that his computer is apparently there…”.

The plain meaning of ‘notice’ here is ‘look at the picture and see what I’m seeing’.

What a dumbass. Will the loozards slurp it up, or will there be an embarrassing, uncomfortable silence at the swamp about what Chunk wrote?

    • Whatever says:

Is the “ideal truth” anything like the Duke gang of 88’s “larger truth”?

And what is the “larger truth” when Johnson talks about Weiner?

    • snowcrash says:

Plato’s cave? That has something to do with urban planning maps, right? Lol

  15. Emperor says:

Wow. Chuck is digging himself an even deeper hole. Now he claims that he never claimed a restaurant menu was Breitbart’s computer. Of course, he defended the story for a day, or more even when people pointed out to him it was a menu – and then suddenly, he now declares “I never mentioned the menu!”

Notice: at no point in my post did I identify the menu board as a computer. This is a pure assumption by Stranahan — he saw the menu board in the picture and simply leaped to the conclusion that I was referring to it, when I wrote that Coulter was reacting to the picture and that Breitbart’s computer was “apparently there.”

Breitbart’s computer was “apparently there” because Ann Coulter was reacting to the Weiner photo. Was it a cell phone, not a computer? Could be, but the distinction is ridiculously trivial — and the claim that I misidentified a menu board as a computer is simply false.

This is a perfect example of a dishonest argument: focusing on a tiny detail, claiming it’s incorrect, then doing a victory dance and pretending that the entire argument has been debunked.

And by the way, modern smartphones are computers, if we’re really going to get pedantic about it.

Why, yes. Yes it is. Dumbass.

  16. Pretzel Logic says:

Let look at what Charles Johnson posted…

Notice: at no point in my post did I identify the menu board as a computer. This is a pure assumption by Stranahan — he saw the menu board in the picture and simply leaped to the conclusion that I was referring to it, when I wrote that Coulter was reacting to the picture and that Breitbart’s computer was “apparently there.”

Now, we will let the Lizards comments analysis what Charles has posted…

    Killgore
Also that photo was taken by Anthony (from O&A) He talked for over an hour about drinking with Breitbart and Coulter on the air. As I recall that was her initial reaction followed by uncontrollable laughter. That’s Anthony’s account, he was there.

    Shiplord
The perfect taunt for these poltroons: But Obama is still president. Even if he loses next year, it can only be to some “RINO” the media-right will hate nearly as much.

    dragonfire1981
Because who gives a flying fuck about the truth anymore? Its nothing but spin and partisan bs. As a someone with a journalism degree this makes me sick.

    Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds
The wingnuts need to get over themselves and understand that being right about Weiner and the pictures doesn’t suddenly grant him any level of credibility. The man’s a bullshit artist, has been for years, and letting this picture out while playing the “victim” is par for the course. Even if you believe that he didn’t manipulate O&A into releasing the photo, believing that he didn’t know what he was doing is just delusional.

    Darthstar
This was hilarious last night…Bill Maher and Jane Lynch read the exchange between Weiner and the Black Jack dealer verbatim (some NSFW language, but it’s Saturday)

    Thanos
It’s still funny as hell how they wrap themselves into psychic basket cases over things that in the grand scheme of things don’t matter at all.

    wrenchwench
OK, forget the crabgrass. Your credibility is like a starfish.

The first seven comments by the Lizards doesn’t even address what Charles said, and most of them barely address the actual topic at hand. They are afraid to tell Charles how stupid this sounds.

And after 11 comments that in no way agree with Charles, what does Charles do… why he puts up a NEW thread. After 11 comments. Lot’s of support you’re getting there Charles.

    This should leave a mark.

    • nils says:

Wow that happened (embarrassed silence, new post) quicker than I could post my prediction about it.

      • Mark says:

It’s time for the lizards to stage an intervention for Chuck. He truly lost it.

      • Pretzel Logic says:

Charles’ caption to the photo with Coulter in it explicitly claims “Here’s Anthony’s photo of Coulter reacting to the picture; notice his computer is apparently there…”

If Charles in NOT referencing SOMETHING in the picture he posted, then what are we to NOTICE. And if his computer is apparently THERE, then where is there if not in the picture Charles posted, captioned and referenced for two or more days.

        Charles is fucking sick.

      • nils says:

Exactly. Chunk conveniently always leaves out the ‘notice’ as he’s spinning his latest stupid mistake.

      • Emperor says:

Chuck has a serious issue about admitting that he’s wrong. Simply saying “Nevermind, that’s not a computer” would have ended it, instead he’s still digging that hole.

    • Pig says:

Kool….is dragonfire1981 one of us? I can’t believe Chuck would let that get by.

    • OldLineTexan says:

Stranahan’s being kind – that’s very mediocre, borderline crappy, guitar-playing by the Chunkster.

  18. antilgfwarrior says:

    Chuck said:

“And by the way, modern smartphones are computers, if we’re really going to get pedantic about it.”

Does that mean all computers are smartphones or just modern computers?

    nils :
Exactly. Chunk conveniently always leaves out the ‘notice’ as he’s spinning his latest stupid mistake.

Apparently you and I are zeroing in on the same thoughts at the same time.

    • nils says:

Well it’s the obvious dog that didn’t bark — ‘notice’, the word the Chunkster always elides from his caption when he defends it.

  20. Banshee's Banned Ghost says:

Wow. Chunk’s blockbuster got 14 comments. From his own stunned sycophants.

You’ve really rocked the Casbah, Chunk.

    • nils says:

Yeah that post by Charles could be a new record for the “total-words-in-the-post-per-comments-generated” metric at LGF. That’s a lot of typing and ratiocination by the Chunkster there and just (14) comments, every one essentially off-topic.

  21. Emperor says:

Chuck gets demolished by Lee Stranahan…

In graf 1, Chuckles sets the time and place – 2 days ago, out drinking. Then he says Andrew Breitbart left his laptop computer unattended. Got that? Then in the next graf, he continues the thought from graf 1 – and says ‘notice his computer is apparently there.

Which computer is he referring to that he wants you, dear reader, to notice?

I will use my Fancy Graphic Tricks to make the words laptop computer very big.

  23. swamprat says:

    Right to the chase;
    Charles said:

Notice: at no point in my post did I identify the menu board as a computer. This is a pure assumption by Stranahan — he saw the menu board in the picture and simply leaped to the conclusion that I was referring to it, when I wrote that Coulter was reacting to the picture and that Breitbart’s computer was “apparently there.”

    And he was refering to picture to which he had made these remarks;

One of those people was right wing flamethrower Ann Coulter. Here’s Anthony’s photo of Coulter reacting to the picture; notice that his computer is apparently there, but Breitbart is nowhere to be seen.

What are you asking your readers to “notice” Charles? In the picture you showed, it sure looks like you are directing their attention to the sandwich board.

But, as you rightly pointed out, this makes no difference in the grand scheme of things; Weiner’s a weiner, Breitbart turned out to be telling the truth, and the Democratics, by association got caught with their pants down.(as it were)

This is a perfect example of a dishonest argument: focusing on a tiny detail, claiming it’s incorrect, then doing a victory dance and pretending that the entire argument has been debunked.

Well no one can argue with you there.

  24. beed says:

Charles’ defense article, which, by the way, is the most typing he’s done since high school, is hillarious.

  25. mrpaulrevere says:

Charles did not say “Coulter is shocked at the image on Breitbart’s laptop computer which is in front of her and to her left” so he’s in the clear, in his mind. This is how he thinks. Seriously.

    • channeling the chunkster says:

Well, Charles’ certainty that Coulter is reacting to something she’s seen (vs. something the guy in the picture said to her, for example) is risible overreach.

      • mrpaulrevere says:

He lives in a bizarre world where he thinks never admitting a mistake actually increases his credibility.

      • I don’t think so:

I think we’re right on CJ’s spin on that thread downstairs. Stranahan, not so much.

/callin it as I see it

      • nils says:

Okay so the guy is holding Breitbart’s laptop aka cellphone?

Even if he is, Stranahan’s still right and Chunkster’s still wrong and spinning on his photo caption imo.

        • yea now that I read it again, the main thing is I see nothing to support CJ’s assertion that any “laptop” was left with the picture on it and unattended by Breitbart. That Stranahan is right about.

      • nils says:

I agree with Chunk that Stranahan’s characterization – in Lee’s other piece – that Chuckles ‘selectively edited’ (or however Stranahan put it) Breitbart’s press release didn’t make sense.

Chuckles didn’t ‘selectively edit’ the press release – he actually added words to it – “Breitbart claimed he only showed it to …” – to change the meaning of what Breitbart said and then claim it was a lie.

(And in the process Chuckles added the adverb the wrong place, btw – it’s not modifying ‘showed’ in the sense Chuckles wants it to mean.)

    • mrpaulrevere says:

He could have added a small addendum saying : “I did not mean to imply the object on the right was Breitbarts laptop” and let it go at that. It’s all personal with him and Breitbarts crew at this point.Even if Charles was right than he was wrong here he comes off looking foolish and childish. Which is perhaps the intent of Stranahan et al. They are baiting him.

  26. swamprat says:

    My word.

  27. Banshee's Banned Ghost says:

Wrenchwench is not stupid. I think she’s mocking Chunk with that starfish post.

    • channeling the chunkster says:

Could be, but at this point the putative mocking at the swamp, such as it is, is so subtle, oblique, wimpish that it could be mere confirmation bias on our part.

Chunk is merely deflecting, and that’s what anyone with eyes can see here.

    • swamprat says:

Actually none of this is worth a farthing tart. In France, I doubt this would even be noticed. It is the lies, spin, misdirections, denials and frothing spittle that make it such wonderful theater.

    • nils says:

I watched the video Charles featured in his article on Breitbart’s visit with the two DJs.

As usual, actually following Charles’ links – vs. just reading his hyperbolic mischaracterizations of what they show – is instructive. Would like to see at what point in that video (mins/secs) Charles thinks the image was captured.

I have no idea where or when or how an image was taken of Breitbart’s phone unless there’s some sort of camera on the ceiling of that room shooting down.

      • ISpeakJive says:

Apparently, there’s a video cam on one of the guys computers that broadcasts the radio show online, like Limbaugh has. When the phone was being passed around the room, the video stream caught the phone screen, an audience member took a screen shot, blew it up and e-mailed it to Opie, and Anthony took a picture of the e-mail with his phone and released a picture of the screenshot.

I don’t think anyone could have planned the video camera catching the phone image in the first place.

So the pic was a phone pic of an e-mail of a screenshot of a phone pic that was a snapshot of the original picture. Or something freaky like that.

Democratic leaders call on Weiner to resign

After Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders called on him to resign, a spokeswoman for Congressman Anthony Weiner announced today that he’ll be entering a “treatment center,” and has requested a leave of absence from the House of Representatives.

    • beed says:

Why is Charles posting this? Is he breaking the story or something?

    • snowcrash says:

That strategy is on page 3 of the Crisis Management handbook. Weiner really believed there would be no consequences of his actions until now? This is just more proof his poor judgment. I notice he still hasn’t resigned. NY lost 2 House seats from the 2010 census . Bet he gets redistricted right out of the picture in 2013.

A bit off topic, but why did Chunk stop at “Right Wing Flamethrower” when describing Ann Coulter. Given his raging moonbattery, Ann’s the kind of person he would usually refer to with some combination of “wingnut, tea bagging, deranged, unhinged, lunatic, racist, with bad craziness”.

When I saw him refer to her using words that might actually be construed as complimentary, my first thought was that he’s trying to keep the door open for a Weiner-esque relationship. “Pam blew me off, but maybe I can score with Ann!”

Yeah, unusual for Charles not to toss in some gratuitous misogyny when he’s talking about conservative women.

      • Elephant Man says:

Maybe he thought it would get Ludwig started on another slut shaming frenzy

      • nils says:

Lood’s still on timeout – self-imposed at this point.

BBG thinks he’ll come back for a final, dramatic flounce. I think this may have been it for Lood.

      • snowcrash says:

I think Ludwig will leave LGF by posting the mother of all flounces. 500 angry words, at the least.

Wherever Ann is right now, she just felt a chill run down her spine. “I think someone just walked over my grave,” says Ann. “And it walked heavily, like a hippo on its hind-legs.”

    • DEZ says:

Is Chucky scared of Ann? or just dizzy from spinning?

  44. YankintheEU says:

Man, that’s not even a vaguely defensible position Charles is taking. He says, ‘notice the computer there’. What could that possibly be referring to but the screen in the image? He’s got to be making a joke out of himself intentionally here.

    • garycooper says:

That’s it, Yank. He’s doing it on purpose, knowing this is likely the last few moments of his 15 minutes of relative-fame.

Bask in it, Fatass. Put some red lipstick on, and dance around like Buffalo Bill. You’ve earned this moment in the spotlight. Step over here, it’s time for your close-up…the nice men in the white jackets will help you pose.

      • YankintheEU says:

Yeah right, making a total idiot of himself is one of the final stages of his transformation from portly man into beautiful dragon. He’s going to be soaring high into the clouds. Awaaay, awaaay from this cruel logical world.

This is a full-fledged flight from common sense and reality.

A second suicide bomber, this one pushing an ice cream cart, killed one child and wounded three more in the central province of Ghazni.

All that just to kill a single child. What a waste.

About a suicide attack in Afghanistan

He’s such a dumbass. Why does everyone think he was referring to the bright glowing square thing that sorta does look like a laptop at first glance as a laptop? **

    Gee, I dunno, derp!

**It’s even cocked at the right angle for a laptop screen, amusingly enough.

Also, he says the iphone “computer” is off camera, and Breitbart is nowhere to be seen. How does he know Breitbart isn’t right off camera as well? Derp-d-derp. I guess Breitbart, had it actually been the laptop he didn’t take to NY, should have body blocked the penis pic at all times to keep random bar-goers from being exposed to the exposed member. Or something…..

    Quadruple derpiness all around.

It would be a shame for a Nazi blog to lose its best Nazi.

I don’t care about them, our pool of entertainers keeps shrinking. This blog doesn’t just write itself you know. Lol

  49. RB says:

OK, forget the crabgrass. Your credibility is like a starfish.

That reads even funnier when you realize that ‘starfish’ is also a euphemism for ‘sphincter’.

  50. garycooper says:

OldLineTexan :Stalker Charles is like “Harry Potter” … there’s obviously only so many episodes left, which makes each one all the sweeter.

Reminds me of that damnable joke again…Pippa Middleton’s bum is like the latest J.K. Rowling novel — you know Harry’s going to be in it. (one-cymbal)
