The Countdown: Crawling Towards 9 Million CommentsPosted: March 9, 2011
Recently, CJ reminded everyone that the LGFers have another one of those grand milestones approaching within the Lizardoid Kingdom: The 9 millionth comment. It will be a truly joyous day for the remaining cultists when it finally arrives. And based on what we’re witnessing, there’ll be an emphasis on the “finally”.
Consider this: The heyday LGF hit the 6 million comment milestone in Oct. ’08, and only six months later, they were throwing a party for the 7 millionth (Apr. ’09). But it took nine months to go from there to the 8 millionth (Jan. ’10), and it looks like we still have a few weeks to wait for 9 million, now well over a year later. Yes, commenting activity has slowed considerably at the swamp over the past couple years…and it keeps slowing.
To illustrate, The Boiler Room put a timeline graph together with the comment numbers crunched, and let’s just say that it isn’t pretty:
You’re reading that right. The tricked-out, ajax-enhanced, spy-enabled, Pages-featured, $10-a-month, premier site for political discourse is now back down to comment levels not seen since the pre-registration era (’03-’04). That 9 millionth comment will be hit, sure, but it looks like the 5 mph bumper will be more than enough to absorb the impact.
Anyway, we’ll officially start our countdown here at DoD. For updates, you can always go the LGF sidebar, under “statistics”:
Oh look, they had over 2K yesterday!
Everyone should keep an eye on Gus, as Mr. 802 is contributing close to 5% of the comment total, which should make him the inside favorite for the “winning” comment. C’mon lizards!
